Mamatoto: A Celebration of Birth

Mamatoto is a wealth or information and rich illustrations that I give to all my pregnant friends to remind them that they are part of a mysterious and miraculous process and not a slab of meat to be shunted through a system that can treat pregnancy as a dangerous or bothersome condition. This 'Celebration of Birth' explores ancient and cultural folklore from around the world. In Haiti, a woman used herbs and takes three protective baths when she discovers she is pregnant. Tibetan folklore cautions expecting women to avoid the shadow of a horse. In ancient Rome, morning sickness was avoided by drinking lime juice mixed with water and cinnamon. Mamatoto is a fascinating collection of trivia and useful information about pregnancy, child birth and infancy. I highly recommend it.
