The introduction makes a good point that Malcolm’s oratory was his power, his talent, his gift. As powerful and moving as these pieces are, reading is one thing, being in the presence of a catalyst for social change is quite another. I am too young to have been there, and while I feel these are important pieces to understand our culture and how we must still work for change, there’s a frustration that this is a glimpse of something important that has slipped away, a singular person, never to return. I wish he had written more (or anything).

Essential

The strength of Malcolm X's vision bleeds through even the comparatively dull medium of paper print. Even if you can't watch the man speak now, you can feel the power of his words with this book. Best read after the biography of Malcolm X.

one of the top most important books ever

While you'd be wise to approach this book with some background knowledge and context, no matter what you're background you have to feel the power of these speeches that still strike as strong today as anything you'll ever read and Malcolm's logic and sincerity hit hard. Don't think you know about what Malcolm stood for if you haven't truly read or heard and engaged his words. I'd also highly recommend checking Breitman's The Last Year of Malcolm X along with if you have not already.

His Own Words, the Way he wanted them!

This book of Malcolm X's Speeches was begun while Malcolm was alive with the publisher and the editor that Malcolm selected, and speeches he wanted in the book. This begins the series of books by Malcolm X published by Pathfinder Press in collaboration with his family as more speeches, interviews, and talks by Malcolm X have been discovered. The aim here is to put Malcolm X's words first. Read them for yourself. Find out why Malcolm was a reasoned, passionate, but uncompromising opponent of US imperialism's wars against oppressed peoples, in Africa, in Vietnam, in the Mid-East. Malcolm can really inspire you about the fights we need.

a teacher and example for all workers

Don't just read what people have to say about Malcolm X! Read what he had to say - about the American system, about internationalism, about racism. This collection begins in November 1963, right before Malcolm X was silenced and expelled by the Nation of Islam, and extends to a couple of days before his assassination in February 1965.

Best Book Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book lets the reader feel the power and intensity of the late El Hajj Malik El Shabazz (Malcolm X) from his time with the Nation of Islam to his Sunni Islamic belifs. While most books about Malcolm are written by PHD's who never met him this book is a combination of his OWN WORDS even a publisher cant mess this up.
