Young women today have infinitely more options than their mothers and grandmothers did decades ago. "Should I become a doctor, a writer, or a stay-at-home mom?" "Should I get married or live with my boyfriend?" "Do I want children?" Women in their twenties, thirties, and forties today are wrestling with life-altering decisions about work and family-and they need all the support they can get.? ??????????? A logical analysis of very emotional situations

As someone who has had to decide between work and 'traditional' motherhood I really found this to be a well-written and thoughtful book. I could associate with many of the stories and it made me think about many of my own decisions in life. The book offers a rational and logical analysis of situations where emotions sometimes run wild.

Wonderful book about our mothers and ourselves

I loved this book. I am very close with my mother and have never reflected too deeply on the dynamics of our relationship--what works, what doesn't work, and why, but reading this book made me laugh in recognition at the accounts of some of the misunderstandings and inadvertently hurt feelings. While laughing and enjoying the book, it also made me reflect with new appreciation of and insignt into how my mother's and my different life circumstances and choices have shaped us and our relationship--insights I fully expect will also be important for me and my daughter (I am going to be sure to read this book again in 20 or so years when my daughter will be 26.) I couldn't put the book down and afterwards immediately sent my mother an email urging her to read it. Next, I'll recommend it to my sister and my best friend (who chafes constantly at how little her mother understands the demands of her life).

So relevant to my life, it's spooky

I have conflicts with my mother exactly like the scenarios described in the book. I care so much about what my mother thinks about me and my decisions about work and family that her relatively innocent comments resonate for days. Making Up With Mom helped me realize that I'm not alone and gave good practical advice about how to diffuse hurt feelings. Highly recommended.

What a fun book!

This is such a fun book! I especially love the stories from the mothers and daughters, who tell of the angst between them. The perspectives are refreshing. So many of my own stories came to mind from my relationshiop with my own mom. I paid special attention to the advice that follows each story. Maybe my mom and I will find a way to solve some of our own conflict. I'm sure it will also be helpful to me as my own daughter grows up! It's a great gift for Mother's Day!

A Fantastic Resource

It's a relief to know I'm not the only one with a love-hate relationship with my mom. When I saw the cover of this book, I knew it was perfect for me! I could really relate to the stories about other mothers and daughters and challenges they face. Not only is the tone is warm and accesible, I found myself able to incorporate some of the suggestions into my interactions with my mom immediately. A really useful book for re-discovering the important bond between mothers and daughters.
