Making It by Hehner and Sheffer is a must have for beginning filmmakers in the Canadian industry. This book has useful information on the overall Canadian industry and includs chapters on everything from funding sources to distribution deals to production contracts. The people who have contibuted chapters to the book have had both critical and commercial success in the industry so you know that its not just a bunch of theories written by hasbeens. No, the contributors have writen in a no holds barred style, keepin' it real and telling it like it is. No only do they poke fun at some of the sometimes hard to explain Canadian funding rules they give examples of how successful companies deal with them by organizing co-productions.The contributors are not above poking fun at themselves as well citing their own mistakes and blunders in the book and what they have learned and the lessons they have moved on with.My only regret was that they should have including even more examples of what to watch out for especially if you are a beginning filmmaker.
