Forced by poverty to seek a marriage to a Minnesota farmer, mail-order bride Kirsten Lundgren arrives to find that the homely farmer she expected to find is actually a handsome seducer. Original. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I would really prefer to give this 3.5 stars, but since I can't I'll err on the side of giving it a bit more than really justified. I liked the plot of this book, that all the bachelors in one town would pay to bring a group of women to town, not contracted to marry them but just encouraged to court and hope for the best. I appreciated the lack of pressure on the women. The book falls short of a great review because Kirsten is much too quick to find fault in Eric, when he is really a nice, patient man who wants to give her time to make sure she can handle this new life of hard farm work. She too easily believes rumors from others over the truth from this decent man, and he deserved much better. The ending wraps up a bit too easily for her, when I think he should have made her work harder to earn back his respect.
