J. Walker, who invented a line of African American hair products and cosmetics that her to become the first self-made female millionaire of any race. Written in graphic-novel format.
I used this text in the classroom teaching ESL learners and it was quite useful. The story in itself is compelling to read. This is a true rags to riches story that also reveals an unknown world to many students today. Madam C. J. Walker's struggle for freedom was fought in a different way than what we usually have seen in the lives of other famous black people. Besides having an inspiring message, the text is useful for identifying main idea and important details, summarizing, paraphrasing, and sequence of events. I highly recommend it.
