Lufthansa traces its history back to the earliest days of aviation and this is an illustrated history of the German national airline. The author's research has turned up much new material and this is included.
This book gives a detailed yet not too academic overview of Lufthansa its predecessors and the aircraft employed. Compared to the German books available I considered it as very attractive that one can consider Lufthansa's role in the global context. The illustration with route maps of the early days are very helpful in understanding what belonged to the Lufthansa pedigree and the evolvement of the airline industry in post-WW 1 Germany. Apart from that the printing quality of the aircraft illustrations is outstanding. So why not five stras then? Although the contents is of a very high standard, I found it sad that only a minimum of pages was devoted to the end of the 1980ies when considerable changes took place.
