Easy, Fun Read for your Preteen and Mine

I requested this book to see if it is something my third grade daughter would enjoy and I am pretty confidant that she will. I will update my review and let you know what she thinks. The book centers around Maggie Tanner, a self-described "quiet and ordnary" girl who loves to act in the school plays. She loves the theatre because she is "able to beome whatever character I'm playing ; free to say whatever she would say, do whatever she would do, feel whatever she would feel." Don't we all have fantasies of being someone else? Someone more outgoing or confidant? I think girls of all ages will relate to that very well. Now for the plot... To her utter shock, in the upcoming play, she will be acting next to Derek, the hunkiest and most "perfect" guy in school and am not sure how to talk to him outside of theatre rehearsals. She also finds herself spending lots of time with the Nico, the free-spirit who coaches her in singing for the upcoming musicale. The plot is pretty predictable but the writing is not. It is witty and fun and engaging and I "highly" recommend it for girls 8 and up.

Love definitly on cue!

This book was really great. Maggie got to choose between 2 great guys that liked her and she liked back. But it was a really sweet book that was great!

Super Cute Book

Ok, I admit it...I love YA fiction. :) It tends to be sweet, clean and easy to read. Love On Cue is no exception. It's a cute tale about high-school junior Maggie Tannery, a shy girl who has found that she comes out of her shell when she's onstage. She's trying out for the new play - she's so excited - until she finds out that it's going to be a musical....because she can't sing! With the help of friend and musical genius, Nico, she decides to take on the challenge and try out. The next hurdle comes when Maggie finds out her crush (HUGE, longtime crush, that is) will be trying out as well. Will she be able to find her voice - or will she crawl back into her shell and hide away until graduation? Super-cute book, great writing. The story is sweet if a bit predictable - and yet, stories are about the journey not the outcome, right? :)

Cute story for the younger crowd!

While this seems to be for the younger crowd, I did find it slightly entertaining, cute and funny. A typical tale of love right in front of your face with some humor. Cute story for teens/pre teens. It is important to keep in mind that the book is not intended for an adult audience and such an audience will probably become bored and want more from the storyline and characters. The story is predictable and reminiscent of other teen novels and book series. As an adult, I found this book to be more on the bland side, but a preteen girl would probably hold some interest in it, especially if she is in the performing arts in school.

Maggie Tannery is very shy. However, when on stage and transformed into a character, Maggie easily finds her voice. Now though, with a new drama teacher in the mix, Maggie has a bigger problem -- she has to find her singing voice! That can be difficult when Maggie has convinced herself she absolutely cannot sing. Thankfully, music genius and cutie Nico decides to help out. After all, his musical is on the line. Then there's Derek, the most popular and cutest guy at Maggie's high school. After an accident, Derek decides to occupy his time with the Spring Musical instead of sports. As with everything else, Derek seems to be a natural actor and singer. If Maggie can find her singing voice, can she grab the lead and act alongside her leading man Derek? Or will Maggie realize that her dream boy might not be her leading man after all? Catherine Hapka writes a very comical and cute story about a shy girl who finds her voice and also finds love along the way. Hapka adds a great addition to the Simon Pulse romantic comedies. The characters are very real and easily lovable. With this quick read, every reader will be entertained and left wanting more. Reviewed by: Steph
