I wasn't able to put this book down!

Anita Higman is a skilled story teller. Get this book and enjoy it! What I liked about Love Finds You in Humble, Texas: 1 -- Anita Higman has crafted the book so that it is a real page turner. I was thinking I'd read another chapter and stop. At the end of almost every chapter, there is compelling reason to read the next one and the next one and the next one. 2 -- The author accurately portrays the feelings of a person who thinks she is a nobody, despite the evidence that proves otherwise. She really gets inside that mindset. If the reader has ever felt that pain or if the reader has wondered how people with the problem think, this book can serve as a resource. For example, Trudie, the main character, is at an art show, her presentation of her art work. She is supposed to be the star, but she heaps a big pile of food on her plate and eats it in the shadows while she watches other women flirt with her boyfriend. Higman does a beautiful job of showing the feelings of a person who suffers from finding herself inadequate. 3 -- Higman leads us to suspend reality and believe that someone perfect could fall in love with someone who sees herself as hopelessly flawed, even though she isn't. The result is that the reader can hope for a better life. Every lonely unattached woman who reads this entertaining little treasure of a romance can dream of a prince charming who will take her away. Wonderful! What could have been better about the Humble romance: 1 -- The point of view skips around and about. Perhaps there is a pattern here I failed to recognize. Too many restrictions may have hurt the story telling. I'm sorry I'm a stickler about this element. 2 -- Sometimes characters, like a helpful uncle or a kitchen full of aunts, just pop up. I needed time to prepare my mind for these people. I realize, however, that part of the craft of the story is the element of surprise, which is difficult to achieve in a genre that is expected to end in a predictable way. I found this Christian romance entertaining reading.

Anita Higman knows Humble, Texas!

Love Finds You In Humble Texas is set in a town very near and dear to my heart. You see, I live about five miles from Humble. It is also the social hub of east Montgomery County. Heck, you can't even see a picture show unless you go to Humble. Main character, Trudie Abernathy agrees to a blind date set up by her sister, Lane. The date turns into a romance, just in time for Lane to decide she's in love with the man, Mason. Trudie backs off from the relationship even though Mason is obviously falling in love with her. One particular scene has Mason wooing Trudie at the boutique where she works. He figures out that he is being shunned by the woman of his dreams and vows to find out what has happened. "So, something happened between the time I dropped you off last night and the time you arrived here this morning. And being a great lover of mysteries, I intend to find out what it is." He turned and strode to the door. "And in the meantime, prepare yourself, Miss Abernathy." She blinked. "For what?" Mason cocked an eyebrow. "To be romanced." Trudie picked up a sheet of paper off the counter and fanned her face. "Are your cheeks tingling again?" He opened the front door. "Yes." "Good." And on that note, Mason grinned and walked out the front door of Bloomers Boutique. LOVE FINDS YOU IN HUMBLE TEXAS made me finally realize what it is I love so much about Anita Higman's writing. Her books remind me of my two favorite Larry McMurtry novels, TERMS OF ENDEARMENT and THE EVENING STAR! Perhaps it's because all the books I've mentioned, including these two McMurtry novels are set in places very close to my heart. And after all, who wouldn't adore walking the streets of Humble or Houston in another person's skin and mind. Maybe I just love Higman and McMurtry's strong female main characters and the self-made male characters who try to tame them. Hmm, interesting thought. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read and a very satisfying happily ever after.

Excellent

Love Finds You in Humble, Texas is a new release by author Anita Higman. She's an excellent writer who sweeps you into the story and immediately invests you in the life and character of Trudie. Higman portrays Trudie to be someone we all know. She's like the girl next door with insecurities that we can all relate to. On the other hand, Trudie's sister, Lane, is gorgeous and exuding self-confidence. Lane gets all the guys while Trudie is left to date Lane's rejects or hand-me-downs. Tension builds in the story when Lane introduces Trudie to Mason, a hand-me-down date, but soon realizes that she's introduced her sister to the man she's in love with. The reader is swept away on a sea of conflict and love as the two sisters work out a plan that is sure to cause heartache for the loser in the process. I will say no more due to not wanting to give too much of the story line away. Higman is an excellent writer who captivate you and pull you into an unforgettable story. Run to your nearest Christian book store and pick this one up today. It's a keeper. Kimberly Byrd
