It isn't high tech, in fact it is entirely in black and white but once they start reading, no kid can resist it.James Scott's book is filled with the joys of childhood. He remembers the fun we all had rhyming and playing with words when we were children. Hidden amongst the fun of poems like Louder!!! (about a monster who loses his voice) and New Rules Day (if a kid could rule the world) are gems of wisdom and understanding.Girl Colors is one little girl's angst over being made to dress frilly and pink when she wants to play in mud and dirt. Stranger explains the need to say "no" and be wary of strangers in a way a small child can understand without becoming scared.This book has become one of my Grandson's greatest treasures. The words are just difficult enough to challenge a first grader without frustrating him. We read Louder!!! together often. Just like Dr. Seuss the poems in this book will become familiar to the entire family due to the "just one more time....please" factor.
