Love the topic and approach, but was a little too easy of a read for my kids

I'm reviewing because I didn't see anything about the quality of writing when I was looking at purchasing this book. The whole series takes very adult concepts that are loaded with political and socio-economic complexities and set up comparable situations for the main characters to experience so they can learn the complex issue through a relatable lens. It's understandably complicated to hit your stride with writing like this, and to me especially the first 2 books in the series seemed almost too preachy and overly to the point. For reference my kids are 9 and 7 and both read well above grade level. It can be a fun easy summer read that can spark conversation, but it's definitely not a challenging read for a kid already reading chapter books consistently.
Great series to help kids understanding of basic government

Love this whole series. My kids of different ages all want to listen to me read these books. I’ve learned stuff too. Great for creating discussions and critical thinking
