Book Overview

The great wars between gods and demons began five millennia ago--and ended with the demons' crushing defeat and banishment from their homeland. The demon race would have surely perished in the empty dimension of their exile had they not found a secret conduit to a safe and hidden plane...called Earth. Greatest among the demons was Kai Wren--the Godslayer and Lord Demon--a master swordsman, dreamer, and glassblower who can contain entire universes...

Not what you may think from the title.

Zelazny blends humor, fantasy, mythology, and action like few authors. This story is interesting from the start, and has enough odd things to hold your interest. It isn't about demons like you might think from the title. He even tells you where all of your unpaired socks end up!

Bottle of Dreams

It's a great book. It should have been better. Roger should have lived to write it. But we have what we have, and it's still a bottle of intoxicating stuff that will make your head spin and have you checking the feng shui in your house. Where was a friendly demon with a healing power when we needed one? One quibble, however: as an evil villain myself I felt that the 'bad guys' were given an unfair shake. We visionaries are always vilified. *sigh*

Open this bottle

In this bottle we have the last few drops of the real stuff. There's not much, and it's precious. The author's last days were spent on it, and there are tears mingled with the strong stuff. There should have been more laughter and less sorrow. Have a drink on Roger! We won't see HIS like again.

World in a bottle: Last call

What a mix of joy and tears this bottle contains! The joy of a new Zelazny book; the pain of knowing there won't be another. It doesn't seem that Lindskold has added a word, yet somehow you can feel an undercurrent of sorrow that doesn't quite fit the mood of this book as it fit the Death-haunted DONNERJACK. That made the funny parts even more welcome. Like some of the demons within it is a sketch of what could have been, but a still a vital entity in itself. This is the last bottle of an old and rare vintage, slightly diluted with a sparkling new springwine but undeniably the real stuff. Sip it slowly.

Absolutely wonderful - invokes memories of Lord of Light!

I must admit that I was skeptical of this book. I didn't care much for Donnerjack, and I was afraid that this book would be disappointing - but...IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL! This book is so vibrantly Roger Zelazny, I almost cried when it was over. If you're a Zelazny fan, please read this - it will make you feel as if the great master himself is standing before you, reciting yet another masterpiece. Jane Lindskold did a marvellous job. Ms. Lindskold thank you for keeping his spirit alive - wish we could have a sequel of the adventures of Kai Wren!

Lindskold deftly realizes Zelazny's wit and style!

I have to disagree with the first commentator. Despite the explicatives, which leads me to believe the writer of the review is a little too sensitive, Lord Demon is a great read. The use of sh*t is used properly in the vernacular of the time-period the book is set in and is in and of itself very funny. Imagine an all powerful demon saying the word and you will understand what I am saying. Start to finish I was thoroughly entertained and highly recommend this book to others. By the way, the word Sh*t is only used 6 times, not 30, in the first chapter.
