Seventh grader Kay Garber's happy home is made up of four generations of women: Great Gran Eula; Grandma Margie; Kay's mother, Karine; and Kay. But on the evening Grandma Margie tells her family she has a lump in her breast, Kay's world is changed forever. Struggling with issues of popularity in junior high school, trying to understand her too-perfect mother, dealing with her feelings about friends, and coming to terms with Grandma Margie's cancer diagnosis and illness, Kay is awhirl with questions that have no easy answers. But Kay is a survivor, and as she journeys through these difficult months she comes to a new understanding of the complexities and importance of faith and family. Told through forthright and perceptive poems in Kay's own voice, Loose Threads reverberates with emotion and depth and will leave no reader untouched.
This book is amazing. When I first heard about the book, I thought, "It's all poetry?". I picked it up and read a page, then another page, and I didn't stop, until I was finished. It made me laugh and cry and think, "Hey! I've felt like that before!" This book deserves more than just 5 stars!

This book is truly wonderful. I've given it to two friends who both cried at the end and loved it. Though it involves the subject of breast cancer, to me it was more a study of 4 generations of women: a girl, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The way the main and sideline characters react to the grandmother's cancer and how the 4 main chars. interact with each other is fascinating. Grover is an author to watch. Amazing work.

My 11 year old daughter and I both loved this book! We laughed, cried and cried some more as we experienced "Kay's" love and loss. Breast Cancer and dying are noteasy to talk about but this story's thought provoking honesty sparked meaningful conversation between the two of us.I highly recommend this moving novel especially to grandmothers, mothers and daughters.

Loose Threads is the best! It is very touching, thought-provoking, sensitive, sincere, and offers true insight into deep subjects. This should be most helpful to the young as well as to the adult. The work is inspiring and well written!
