It's up to Longarm to help the new marshal of Reno catch the old marshal's murderer. But that still allows Longarm time to romance the rancher's daughter-an old flame he's never forgotten.
It looks like Longarm is finally going to marry and settle down...tell me it isn't so.

This February 2003 edition of Longarm finds our hero with a different sort of assignment. The Federal Marshal of Reno ,an old friend of Longarm's,has been murdered and it is his job to accompany this real "Gem" from back east in New York, who has connections right up to the President, and has been chosen to be the new Marshal. Things get real interesting when Longarm gets reunited with an old flame. The fact that Longarm has some serious concerns as to whether this fellow can handle the job or even if he has the savvy to survive;is at the root of his problems. It's a good story, well constructed and moves right along from beginning to end. While we are in for some real surprises, the story fits the bill for a good Old West western.
