Longarm and the Mysterious Mr. Jiggs

The title I choose for this review is the last line in this novel.It is very appropriate, as a check of the Atlas no longer talks about any town by the name of Yesterday anywhere near Buffalo,Wyoming,or anywhere else in the State. So,if it ever did exist,the writer's words were very prophetic,and has long since joined the list of Ghost Towns of the Old West. This is a great episode in this long-running series;and a good one to read if you are wondering if this series would be to your liking. Typically,it starts off with some action in and around Denver,before Longarm gets a mission that leads him out of town on a hunt for some owlhoot(s) in his continuing mission to bring justice to the Old West. This tale is a little different in that Longarm is not sent on a case by his boss Marshal Billy Vail;but goes on a hunt of his own, to find out who murdered his friend and lawman Marshal Franklin. In this story, you are going to meet up with some well developed and interesting characters.The story is well constructed,and even though it takes quite a while for Longarm to get to his goal;you won't be bored with all the action and experiences our hero encounters along the way.I don't much care for Whodunnits disguised as Westerns, and this is definitely not one of them. It takes Longarm quite a while to find his target, and bringing the evil doer of deeds to justice,but the story is straight forward and exciting. Ig you sometimes find the use of the titles Marshal and Sheriff confusing;Longarm explains it on pages 135 and 136.
