This is very good Longarm despite that the writer stretches out the story more than necessary. It starts out great, with a good mission for Longarm: to go into the desert wilderness of Utah and rescue a young woman from the clutches of a polygamist with a vision. It does get a bit out of hand, especially when Longarm is stranded in the desert without water and comes across abandoned buildings and decides to fashion a landcraft with a sail. Low and behold, he does and it gets him to the train tracks and ultimately and a cool drink of water and the continuance of his life. There's really too many pages devoted to that scene. The remainder of the book just kind of unravels very predictably and really didn't sustain my attention. Sorry, no mystery in this Longarm. So, why four stars? Well, the beginning was good and the descriptions of nature and the desert are excellent. Proceed at your own risk.*
