ISBN 0809474700 - Printed in the U.S.A. Time Life books and Fisher Price? How could these two get together and make a bad book? I can't imagine that that could ever happen and it certainly didn't here. A surprisingly hefty book at 63 pages! Inside are stories - fictional and non-fictional - and poems and even a couple small games about the seasons for young readers. The quality ranges from good to excellent, depending on the author and illustrator, of course, but the overall book is very good. A retelling of two classics, Snow-White and Rose-Red and Johnny Appleseed, are the highlights for me. Poems by Jack Prelutsky, Marchette Chute, Rachel Field and Karla Kuskin are fun and perfectly suited for their respective seasons. Best of all, each season has a mixture of stories so the reading never becomes boring. Not a great "sit down and read a book" book, this is one that works best if you read a little here and a little there, as the seasons change. The differences in styles of illustrations from story to story are another thing that keeps things fresh. It's almost like opening a new book with each story - some almost cartoonish, some very plain, some have beautiful detail and some are simply educational companions to non-fiction pieces. This is a nice way to sneak some education into your young reader's books. The series also includes Little People Big Book About Faraway Places - AnnaLovesBooks
