Little Engine Shaped Board Books: Roger the Racer; Billy the Bulldozer; Terry the Taxi; Tommy the Tugboat

Ah, that Tommy who is taking a rest and reading after a hard days work in the sun. Now, if only those loud noises would go away he could read in peace...(the plot line of the story) That is the gist of this classic little book. I got this book for my little rugrat when he was first born and now that he is 3.5 years old, he still asks for it to be read to him every now and then. He loves these short little books. Billy the Bulldozer is similarly loved despite several logical inconsistencies. Billy the Bulldozer arrives in a gravel pit to flatten the land for planting (...planting what ???) The gravel pit is in the middle of nowhere and there happens to be a bus stop right at the edge of the quarry. Whom does this bus line serve ?? When Billy scoops up the earth to rescue Gus from danger, he (Gus is hanging on for dear life to the edge) is shown going up a rather steep edge scooping up dirt. The next page shows a happy and cheerful Billy and Gus on level ground and the pit is nowhere to be seen. Oh well, mere quibbles of an adult who can "read" the story to a child without benefit of seeing the text. My little guy loved them when he was even littler and still enjoys them now. On a side note whoever illustrated this little gem of a tugboat story made all of the cars drive on the left-hand side of the road. Review: 5 stars from my child, 3 stars from me which gives the four.
