THE LITTLE BIG BOOK OF ART: Western Painting from Prehistory to Post-Impressionism [Paperback] Magalhaes, Roberto Carvalho De This description may be from another edition of this product.
I like this book because it gives an excellent overview of the most outstanding examples of western painting throughout history in a concise, portable format. It is a quick access book that can be used instead of the bulkier, heavier, art catalogs when we are looking for a fast reference.
a visual feast

I found this book at Borders for under seven dollars on a discount table. While the text providing context is minimal, the pictures are lush and plentiful. When I wanted to know more about a painting I did a Google search and looked the painting and it's story up on the Internet. It is great to see again paintings that are old friends and to become acquainted with some work that is new to me and brings much delight and even awe.
Great little book...

I originally got this book for my preschool age children - figuring they would enjoy looking at the pictures - and they do. It's our most sought after book on car trips. The small size is perfect - though it's heavy for little hands. Moreover, every adult who has seen it at my house wants one. It contains some of the most famous recognizable art, plus more that may be lesser known to the average person. It also contains a short explaination of each time in art history. Seems like it might be marketed as a "coffee table book" - only it doesn't take up the entire table and people actually look at it! We love it - I recommend it for everyone!
