This large paperback book has a host of dramatic photos inside. A definite find for any lighthouse lover! The book is made from heavier than normal paper stock. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a nice, colorful book on the lighthouses of Maine. All photographs are in color, and most are accompanied by interesting descriptive text highlighting particular facts of each light. Don't expect a lot of depth and detail on each of the lighthouses here. At a mere 66 pages, the intent of the book is obviously not an in-depth study of Maine's coastal sentries. The book's forward spells out the author's intent for the book--to provide a pictorial history (using nice color photographs of the lighthouses taken by the author) of the lighthouses of Maine. There is also a map in the front of the book depicting their general location along the Maine coast. The original edition dated 1987 was issued at a time when few mass-market books of any kind existed on lighthouses, let alone the particular lighthouses of Maine. And although public interest in lighthouses and their heritage has blossomed over the past 10-15 years, encouraging a proliferation of books on anything and everything lighthouses, at the time of publication this book provided a much-needed and interesting look at the lighthouses between its covers. It thus fulfilled its author's intent. Even today, it deserves a look for it's easy reference and clear photographic depictions of the unique lighthouses of the far northeastern coast of the United States.
