Cthulhu vs Charmed Ones

A last-minute wedding invitation brings the Charmed Ones to a small seaside town. Here they meet their old friend who is marrying an academic who is fascinated with the local legend involving a lighthouse and a terrible accident at sea that resulted in the death of the lighthouse keeper's love. The one-hundreth anniversary of the tragedy will be the same day as the wedding. Although the sisters don't put any stock in the legend or the anniversary (when will these ladies get a clue?) they do quickly run afoul of some water sprites that seem bent on destroying the wedding in any way they can. Then they meet the groom who seem utterly charming and handsome. But the groom is not who he appears as the lighthouse keeper's curse is coming due. The keeper wants to eliminate happiness like his was eliminated. He will do it by summoning elder gods to rise from the depths and reclaim the Earth. How will the witch trio stop the end of the world? If you don't get continually frustrated at the totally clueless witches (eight years and counting) then this is a pretty good story. The Lovecraftian touches are nice and better put together than some plots. I still don't understand the relationship with the friend and the last-minute invitation (and to be part of the wedding party, no less) but we already know they are clueless. Still, this is certainly one of the better Charmed novels. Check it out.

Bride and Doom

Delighted to be a part of their friend Lyssa's wedding, the sisters head to Serenity Cove, a town of eccentrics where every misfortune is blamed on the ghost of a lighthouse keeper who vanished one hundred years ago--shortly after his fiancee died at sea. Lyssa's fiancee James is a young, handsome professor researching the lighthouse legend. His good looks remind Phoebe of Cole, and she wonders if James, like Cole, is hiding a dark side. Her sisters think that she is being too cynical, but the more Phoebe watches James, the more convinced she is that something is terribly wrong. Meanwhile, mischievous water creatures torment Lyssa and try to ruin the pre-wedding festivities. Can the Charmed Ones save this wedding--and should they? Light of the World is a compelling, well-paced adventure, full of fascinating supporting characters- the sweet Lyssa, the crazy townsfolk, Simon the incubus, and the naughty nixies. The evil threat is worthy of the sisters and not easily conquered. The only weak spot is Leo, who sounds like a pale, emasculated version of his television self. Luckily, however, he isn't around much. Truly, Light of the World will delight any Charmed fan.
