Book Overview

Using today's most leading-edge therapies and breakthroughs in the science of longevity, C. Norman Shealy, one of the pioneering holistic physicians of our time, shows how we can healthfully age to one hundred, and beyond.

The cleansing Doctor

Dr Shealy is among the very, very few modern-day MDs who understand, acknowledge, and practice the role of dietary cellular cleansing in disease. And this book is no exception. While he gives great clues as to how people grow successfully old and how we can, too, there are dietary and external tips for keeping the cells cleansed and the metabolic waste moving throughout the entire book. It's a central theme in his work. During his book tour this past week, Shealy was asked by a reporter for one quick tip (to staying old). His cell-cleansing response? "If you want a single health habit that will help everyone, it's 20 to 30 minutes of sitting in a sauna or soaking in a hot tub. Even a hot bath. It reduces your stress and you sweat away toxins." Shealy's approach to health was highlighted by one of the ending statements he said in a live presentation I saw him give back in 1997. It struck such a nerve that I wrote it down then, and quoted it 4 years later in my first book. He said: "The next great advance in the health of the American people will come not from hospitals or laboratories, but from what people will learn to do for themselves." I still have not found a better creed by which to live.
