A Delightful Read

I picked up a copy of this book since my daughters have read several other books by Julia DeVillers and enjoyed them very much. While I would say most of her other books are geared for the late tween/teen age, this one is clearly geared for the early tween years. It's written from the perspective of a 9 year old girl who's dad has just become President. The book follows Liberty through inauguration day where she does lots of typical kid like things (getting antsy waiting for speeches, being very excited about having certain priviledges from living in the White House, and wanting to prove herself worthy of being the President's daughter, to name a few). It has some really cute supporting characters including her secret service agent SAM, and a whole host of kids she buddies up with when she joins their White House tour. There is even the grumpy staff person who she has to win over with her cuteness. I love that the way it's written....it really does seem like it's in the vernacular of a 9 year old child. One of my favorite sayings is when she talks about her dad "oathing the office" as he becomes President. And she uses made up words with -tastic tagged to the end of them, her favorite being pres-tastic! There is also some great trivia about some of the past president's kids. I would definitely reccommend getting this book, it's adora-tastic and deligh-tastic all in one!

Great Pick!!!

I picked up this book for 7 year old daughter to add to her summer reading list. She read it cover to cover last night, and couldn't stop giggling. To quote her "it was so funny that I almost bust a gut". This book is a fun way to get young kids excited about chapter books. She can't wait to read more Julia DeVillers books!

Another Fun Book By Julia Devillers

I read Trading Faces by Julia Devillers for my 5th grade book report. I really enjoyed the book and I got a good grade! When I found out Julia Devilllers wrote a new book I couldn't wait to get it. Libery Porter First Daughter was exciting and fun to read. I liked reading about Liberty Porter's adventures in the White House. After I read this book I wished I lived in the White House! It seems so big and full of adventures. I loved this book and hopfully there will be more like it! This review was written by Nicole - a 6th grade student

Fabulous and Fun

My daughter and I have both read this book. It is absolutely fabulous! We both loved it. It is a really fun and interesting read. My daughter was so excited when she was reading it that she kept shouting to me about all the funny things happening in the book. Liberty is another great book from this truly talented author. All of her books have been favorites! This is a must read!!!

Liberty Porter is great fun!

I've been fortunate enough to read Liberty Porter: First Daughter and it's delightful. Liberty is very excited about moving to her new house, and considering it's the White House, that's pretty cool. Liberty is fun, smart, full of gumption and serious about her duties as First Daughter. Julia DeVillers has captured the giddy excitement and glamour that comes with your dad being President, but also what it would really be like to be First Kid and the serious business that can entail. I'd say the book is for young readers on up. It's an easy read and there are lots of interesting facts (some things I didn't even know) and the story is so fun and clever, that I believe older kids would like to read it as well. If you know any young people that are fascinated by Malia and Sasha Obama and the inner workings of the White House, this is the book for them.
