This book has so many wonderful dessert recipes, but the ice creams are by far my favorite! There are many unique flavors that are surprisingly easy to make (my favorite is the lemon custard ice cream). And the photographs throughout the book are absolutely beautiful. A must for any cookbook collector.
The only dessert cookbook you'll ever need

I adore Lee Bailey and am an eager collector of his beautiful cookbooks. This one does not disappoint. It's quite comprehensive, and I love his straightforward, casual style. Cooking should be an enjoyable experience, and you can tell Mr. Bailey loves to cook for his friends and family. The cake recipes, in particular, are really special. All the classics are here- presented beautifully, with very simple instructions. I can't wait to get cooking!
Everyone Loves This Book

My Mom has now bought three copies of this book and my sisters keep taking them. This book has the best dessert recipies of any collection I have come across. They are easy and delicious. The photos are also quite beautiful. They make everything look so good, but this is a "country" dessert book- not full of fancy stuff. There is also a section of desserts for children. I highly recommend the Pear Tart with Raspberry Glaze.
Lee Bailey's Country Desserts

I started to cook late in life and found this wonderful cookbook. I figured I'd start making cookies first - make my mistakes and gradually "move up" to cakes, breads, then on to dinner meals. I found the dessert recipes in this book - easy to read, easy to follow and most of all easy to make. The pictures really helped as well. My coworkers (my experimental ginea pigs) actually enjoyed my desserts and now I boast the best lemon bars in town! Thanks to Lee Bailey's great collective recipes. Although I scored it pretty high for being a novice cook -- I still get plenty of requests at family and business functions to make certain desserts from this cookbook so it is a well deserved rating!
Have had this book for years!

I have tried several recipes from this book and not only are they truly old fashioned desserts, every single on of them turns out perfect and they actually look like the picture in the book. Our favorites include the lemon squares, blondies, and devil's food cake! This book is a permanant resident in my kitchen and gets used frequently!
A Kitchen Staple

I have tons of cookbooks but this is one of about 5 that never leave the kitchen. The recipes are easy to follow and always turn out well. It is definitely not for the calorie conscious (9 egg yolks for a quart of ice cream!) but everything is delicious! The writing style is simple and homey and the pictures make you want to cook everything immediately.
MR. BAILEY IS A CLASSIC!!

THIS IS A MUST HAVE IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR OF COOKBOOKS, AND/OR ENJOY BAKING. MR. BAILEY'S BOOKS ARE NOT JUST FOR THE RECIPES, EVEN THOUGH HIS ARE EXCEPTIONAL--ESPECIALLY THE SNICKERDOODLE RECIPE LOCATED IN THIS BOOK--THEY ARE ALSO A FEAST FOR THE SENSES. IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY YOU SHOULD ALSO TRY TO OBTAIN A FEW OF HIS OUT OF PRINT BOOKS, SUCH AS LEE BAILEY'S CITY FOOD, AND LEE BAILEY'S GOOD PARTIES. HIS RECIPES AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE VERY EASY TO FOLLOW. I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED WITH HIS WORK, AND HIS PHOTOGRAPHER, JOSHUA GREENE, DOES JUSTICE TO ALL THE RECIPES THAT APPEAR.
