Good book for beginners

I bought this book primarily for my interest in Commodore computers and interfacing them with electronic experiments. Instead I found an informative, easy to read textbook geared to serious beginning electronics students. It utilizes fifteen programs written for the Commodore 64 to help students learn the fundamentals, but I honestly don't feel that the programs are necessary to get use from the book itself. If you have the patience to type them in, they are useful. (There were also versions published for IBM and Apple computers.) The author, R. Jesse Phagan has written several other electronics books which don't include computer programs at all. A word of warning, the book is math-heavy, but I learned quite different fundamental information from this book that was absent from, say, Electronics for Dummies. Another Important Warning: There are several mathmatical errors throughout the book, but they are typically easy to figure out, especially if you have a teacher available. Also, some of the computer programs have glitches in them, but a knowledge of BASIC programming should make them easy to fix.
