A wonderful book!

My children, ages 22 and 18, grew up on this book, and I'm pleased to see it's still being published. It has all of the old nursery rhymes in it and delightful pictures. It has some finger plays as well. I will keep buying this for gifts!

Positively delightful!

What a wonderful book! The illustrations are charming, and the rhymes included practically constitute an exercise in cultural literacy. My 5yo daughter LOVES this book, and read the whole thing in two days as soon as I brought it home. She still pours over it. A lovely addition to your family's library, particularly if you have young children! (and I am VERY picky!)

Lavender's Blue. the nursery book icon

This book is part of my childhood, part of the 1950s. Our family copy was so tattered by the sixth child my mother had to buy another one. the rhymes are deceptively simple, the actions and rhythms delicious for children and adults. This book was one of the books that as an older child I could entertain my younger brothers and sister with, and was part of our wet weather entertainment. I was fortunate enough to find a reprint in 1982 when my son was born, and he loved it too,,,"to market to market to buy a fat pig. home again home again jiggetty jig,,' was a particular favourite. Now he is having a child, and I'm so pleased to find it is still available for another generation

Lavender's Blue

I first got this book at the library 15 years ago when my first child was a baby, and he and I loved it so much that I ordered a copy (ours is quite tattered.) It has lots of rhymes I grew up with and some less familiar to me. Cool pictures, and even some games to play with the rhymes. Now I'm ordering it for my little niece's first Christmas, a child whose mother's repertoire of nursery rhymes is sadly limited. I know she'll love it!

Classic Nursery Rhymnes

This is the classic of all classic nursery rhyme books. It contains all the rhymes you expect, plus a great many you have forgotten and some finger and hand games. The rhymes are one per page with an extremely pleasing color illustration that takes up the whole page devoted to that one rhyme. This is the book my mother read to me in the 60s, and I read it to my daughter in the 90s. It is not free of excessive violence (some nursery rhymes are violent), nor is it gender-neutral in any way. (Again, that is not a feature of traditional nursery rhymes.) I heartily recommend it anyway.
