The Latecomer

I loved this novel. I was greatly moved by Philippa, she was completely believable to me. I've read the book twice - the most powerful scene for me was in the last few pages. The last sentence was perfect. I thought about the two main characters for days and I love to imagine what the years ahead held for them. from the publishers web site - Philippa, returning by ship from a European vacation to her post in a women's college, finds her life unexpectedly changed by the woman who shares her cabin, whose career as an entertainer contrasts vividly with her own.
