Surprisingly entertaining

I bought this book because of some familiarity with Lancaster, Ohio and the author (I met him many years ago). I expected it to be like a typical textbook (dull), but it absolutely isn’t. I recalled that David had a sophisticated wit, and this comes through in his writing. The level of research that went into this project is astounding, and the historical relevance of this relatively small town is enormous. It’s not just General Sherman’s home town. I think anyone from Ohio would find this to be a fascinating read, but I also think anyone with an interest in American history would learn a lot from it.
