Book Overview

Valoree no longer has to masquerade as her murdered brother and scourge the oceans as Captain Red. She no longer has to command his pirate band in a quest to regain his birthright. She has been named heir to Ainsley Castle. But no executor would ever hand over the estate to an unmarried pirate wench and her infamous crew--no matter to whom she'd been born. And the will distinctly states that in order to inherit, Valoree must be married to a nobleman...

Very entertaining

I ve had this book for a while but the title kept putting me off read it. Really not into pirates! MISTAKE! The entire premise is silly, and you have ‘suspend your disbelief’, but if you are in a mood to be entertained, this book is for you. Funny, engaging and a thoroughly enjoyable read!

Funny Romance Book

Loved how this book featured an independent female main character and her band of pirates. This book was filled with so many things that made me laugh. BUY THIS BOOK!

Grabbed me from the first page

Valoree has been posing as Valerian for 10 years, fooling all the crew on her brother's privateer vessel, and being a regular scourge of the sea. Then her crew decides to retire, and they all want little cottages in the country, and they take a vote. They decide Valoree must return to London to claim her family's estate. When the estate lawyer tells her she must marry and have an heir in order to inherit, Valoree is ready to hop back on the ship and sail away. But her crew once again out-maneuvers her. They have another vote. They decide that she should marry, and they even choose her husband. She is horrified by their choice, because Daniel is exactly the opposite of what she thinks she wants. Lady Pirate is such a fun read. All those big scary pirates in pink livery, trying to get Valoree dressed up and invited to soirees. As their drastic measures get increasingly drastic, things get very hot between Valoree and Daniel. Their wedding night was the funniest thing I've read in a long time. I don't want to give it away, but let's just say there was some light bondage involved. I have always liked Lynsay Sands books. This one and "The Deed" are my two favorites. We romance readers spend so much time sifting through pebbles and hunting for gems. This one was a gem for me!

what a super romp!!

I am not much at writing a good review, but I know that I am several of my family members read this book and found it charming, witting and a devine HOWL!!!!Lynsay Sands is one super writer!!!!WISE Writers and Readers Book of the Month for January 2001

Lady Pirate is a "MUST READ!!"

Lynsay Sands is a brilliant author that does it again!! This book is a well written historical romance, has strong characters, a great story line and I found it very entertaining. Lady Pirate has all the components of a great book... humor, intrigue, romance, and a dash of sex. What more could you want??? The "leading lady", Valoree and her motley pirate crew are hilarious trying to be land-rats in an attempt to find her a husband. I am an avid historical romance reader, and have throughly enjoyed all of Lynsay Sands' books, and this one did not let me down. It is a book that was hard to put down, and easy to read again!I highly recommend this book to all fellow historical romance readers!!

Great book! So funny!

I read the preview on Lady Pirate and it was just so funny that I had to order it from the bookstore at the first chance. The Heroine was great. I hate weak females, but she isn't weak. She gotta be brave to be a pirate. The Hero was great too. He was very understanding, intelligent, and he acts so cute. Like the heroine said, "He is so darn cute."The story has lots of humor like when her "face" fell off. Not really her face, it was makeup. Anyway, it bounced off her chest and landed into the mean hostess of the soiree's wineglass. The storyline is that in order to inherit her family lands, she has to marry a nobleman and be with child by her 25th birthday which is in 9 months. A funny part is that her crew is always voting on what she should do for her own good. They voted that she so marry and enter society in order to do so. She met Lord Thurborne but doesn't want to marry him because he would be too independent for her to walk all over. Her men voted that she should marry him because they're perfect together. They drugged the two of them and sailed out to sea with them two aboard. Lots more happen but I shouldn't reveal it and ruin your fun. This book was so good, I finished it in two days. I hope you'll like it too.

very steamy, indeed!

well, lynsay sands seems to be getting better and better. i'veread most of her books and each one is better than the next. the bestpart of this book was that the heroine was a strong, brave, andintelligent character. and the hero... well, they really don't makemen like him, do they? he was a great counterpart to the heroine.also strong, brave, and intelligent, but flawed enough to make him aperfert romantic hero. the story was fast-paced and exciting. thechemistry and love scenes between hero and heroine were steamy, romantic, and frequent enough to keep my interest. i love it when thehero and heroine can't keep their hands off each other. what makesthis one really good was that the heroine was very natural in hersexuality and not coy and stupid about it. the secondary characterswere also lively and enhanced the story/romance without becoming"clutter." but, what really makes this a five star romanceinstead of three or four is the humor! ms. sands writes just enoughfunny and witty dialogue/scenes to keep the story interesting andlively. i am not a fan of hand-wringing/maudlin stories, especiallywhen that is all they rely on to keep the story going. i cannot waitfor the next book!
