Labyrinth of the Beast

Accused of being a witch by the villagers, Lilith is captured and set out naked for the beasts of the forest to take. The villagers hope her sacrifice will restore goodness back to their town. Lilith has no idea what is in store for her when she is tied naked and blind folded to the tree. She knows she can endure anything but death. Gaelen, a Hawkin, a form of demon living in the forest, goes to see what the villagers have set out for them. Pleased with their gift, Gaelen takes Lilith to the caves where he prepares her the best he can for the carnel pleasures of the beasts within the caves. Lilith will be there for a while, but then given the choice to leave, Gaelen hopes she will decide to stay with him. Labyrinth of the Beast is a wickedly erotic tale. I was riveted from the first page. Gaelen is a remarkable character that grows throughout the story. His and Lilith's attraction is red hot and oh so steamy. You won't be able to put down Labyrinth of the Beast until the last page. Klarissa reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Good Book!

I liked this book. It's a bit of a different spin than usual romance novels, and that's a very welcoming change. I agree with the other reviewer that a second half of this book is way more enjoyable than the first. Most of the first half were just various sex scenes, and although I found them very well written (you don't have to be into bondage to find them sexy), after a while I had enough. There is much more character development that takes place in the second half and the story really takes off there. The characters, their feelings and emotions are very convincing, and the story never gets boring. I would look into more books by this author.

A book that's full of surprises

Lilith, a young woman who was raised by her mother and taught about healing and herbs apart from the village in a house in the forest, is accused of witchcraft by the superstitious villagers. Therefore she is offered as a sacrifice to the "demons" living in the Labyrinth of the Beasts. Gaelen, one of the beasts, comes to collect her and to prepare her for the perverted and sometimes brutal pleasures of the other beasts. But although she goes through the sexual "service" demanded by the beasts, she feels drawn to Gaelen and he to her. Their worlds and wishes are too different though, and in the end Gaelen grants Lilith's wish to set her free and take the painful memories from her. Gaelen doesn't want to lose Lilith, though, and he knows that she's is still in danger from the villagers, especially since she can't remember what they did to her. So he follows her to the forest where he meets her again in his beast form. When she seems distrustful of him at first, he transforms into a human man. When that "stranger" helps and protects her, she gives him shelter and they live and work together during the following months. While Gaelen learns about human life and emotions, Lilith feels attracted to both the human and the beast, who meets her in the forest from time to time. But how can she choose between the two? This book was a surprise to me. It starts out with a situation that you find in many erotic romances: A woman is taken from her normal life and forced into sexual submission by "demons". In this first half of the book, there are some elements of BDSM and that's what the publisher tries to sell the book as. But in the seond half, when Gaelen and Lilith have left the Labyrinth, the book becomes so much more. Here it's about two very different people who try to make a life together despite those differences. The relationship becomes very loving and caring here. I found this change fascinating and very convincing. The demons are not given to being emotional or caring, and when Gaelen finds himself drawn to this human woman and her human needs for gentleness and love, he must learn not only to deal with his own needs, but to find a common path with Lilith. I found this book fascinating, surprising and very enjoyable. The first half is sexy in a dark sense, but what I really enjoyed was the second half in which Lilith and Gaelen found a relationship that went far beyond sexual pleasure and attraction. So in my opinion, this book is far above the usual erotic romances. It has much more depth and character development. I will definitely buy the next book by Desiree Acuna.
