A monumentally complex work

*sigh* It saddens me, truly, to see the recent swath of negative reviews for this book. But then again, the majority of the people reading this book are Fantasy or Science Fiction readers, which are absolutely wonderful genres and their best works can contain a great deal of literary depth. Outstanding, but not an unqualified recommendation...

I've read some of the reader reviews of "Shadow and Claw" and come to the conclusion that the book needs an introduction. Many of the negative reviews, I think, come from readers who weren't familiar with Gene Wolfe's writing style, which is understandable.
