Reference Book and Pattern Book

This book teaches the traditional construction methods we grandmothers were taught at home and in 4-H and school. No expensive products or computerized machines are needed. Don't have a serger? No problem. We used to do a lot with just straight stitch and zigzag. Discover the wonderful world of slips, nighties, and even make a curler bag for your groovy hairstyle. I love vingate sewing books, being a bit vintage myself. Add this to your sewing library for reference.

Just what I wanted.

Just what I wanted. Now I can get going with my new serger and computerized sewing machine. The master pattern is a gem. Kwik Sew makes wonderful products.

Kwik Sew Method for Sewing Lingerie

This has to be one of the best lingerie books to date. I love the "vintage" sewing patterns and the amount of detail that is contained in this book is overwhelming. If you do find a copy second hand, make sure to ask if the patterns come with the book as they are on seperate sheets located in the back. You do have to know how to draft and grade patterns but there is more than enough infomation on the net to accomodate this. There are beautiful long flowing "Grace Kelly" type nightgown patterns that you just do not find in todays patterns. I even take the methods outlined in the book and adapt them to the newer Kwik Sew patterns. Timeless! You have to get this one, it is more than worth it! :-)

Older is sometimes better

This book is from the 70's and was recommended by a fabric website. It has very precise instructions. Plus, there is a lot of detail on individual fabrics and thier uses. Not for a first time seamstress, because you have to make your own patterns and know how to draft the patern out, but great for the serious seamstress.
