It doesn't matter if you have a Viking or not to get a lot of use out of this book. There is actually a series for different brands of machines, but if you don't have one of those machines or can't get the appropriate book, this book will certainly be of use to you. These books take off where your sewing machine manual quits. The authors go through many different projects showing how to use different presser feet, needles, tensions, threads, stitches, etc. to make an item or to learn how to do a part of a project. While they use some decorative stitches in the projects, even if your machine doesn't have a lot of decorative stitches, don't worry, as long as you can sew straight and zig zag you will learn how to use what you do have for maximum impact. You will learn to do applique, make lace, sew out decorative designs, quilt, do French machine sewing, sew hems, etc. Whether decorative or just practical and pretty this book will show you how to do things you didn't know your machine could accomplish. I have plenty of sewing books in my sewing room, and even though I sew with a Janome machine, this book is heading upstairs as a reference I will be turning to many times.
