I happened upon this book and was delighted with the story of a gull and his family and the process of living life. When I read about the conditions under which this book was written, it came through as a gift meant for the author's children as well as a story of hope and goodness for the rest of us. The author was imprisioned for refusing to teach for the Nazi regime and was allowed only one letter per week. Within that letter to his family, he enclosed a page for his children. Those pages became the story, Kleew. I treasure it.
