Another great book to the series!

Carrie Vaughn does an amazing job that makes it all work out in the end. All her books makes you sit at the edge of your seat -wondering what happens next. And it's definitely a new topic for Kitty to experience. I do wish she could have put a bit more of Cormac's big secret more in detail though. I know she made a separate book about it but it still leaves you a little confused and wondering more about it. ~Happy Reading~

Another nonstopo read

Carrie Vaughn has maintained her position as one of the best writers in this genre. This story was fat paed and logically developed. She managed to throw a couple of curves and surprises. I thoroughyl enjoyed the book

Good Kitty!

"Kitty Goes to War" has cemented the fact that this series deserves a spot in my top five series. It may be closer to one or two actually. After the first book, I wasn't even sure I wanted to continue on because Kitty was a weak character who let people run all over her. Now I see that it was probably Vaughn's intention all along to show readers how far Kitty could grow and change. She is now a strong leader. She is always a dang nice person. I thought "Kitty's House of Horrors" was my favorite book in the series and it was unti this one came along. The plot is actually fairly simple in complexity. Kitty gets a request to help three werewolf soldiers back from Afganistan. Things blew up for them over there and they are all suffering. Kitty is their one chance to gain back some semblence of a normal life. Around the same time, something weird is going on with a local convienance store chain called Speedy Mart. Cormac is doing the investigation and most of the legwork on this case while Kitty and Ben focus on the soldiers. The book never bores, each page is relevant to the plot. This story dealt a lot with the ideas of what makes up pack and inter-pack relations. The action scenes are great and never become so intense that the book loses sight of the emotions of the characters involved. Cormac is back and in this book sustantially. He has changed a little since prison but even Kitty and Ben can't guess how much. I am very much looking forward to seeing more of Cormac in the future. I am very eager to read the next book in this series.

wonderful werewolf urban fantasy

Midnight Hour talk show host Kitty Norville is also an alpha werewolf; perhaps the most visible in the country. On her show, she talks with callers about Speedy Mart and its owner Harold Franklin. The discussions focus on verified supernatural happenings at many of his stores. The final call-in for the evening insists Franklin is always there when a weather catastrophe occurs. Before she can react, his lawyer sues her. They meet, but accomplish nothing. Meanwhile Kitty gets a call from the NIH Center for the Study of paranormal Biology. A werewolf soldier in Afghanistan infected other soldiers; they were successful as a unit until the alpha died. The squad falls apart as the new alpha Sergeant Vanderman kills those who opposed him. By the time they are stateside, only two soldiers and Vanderman remain. They are held at Fort Carson, Colorado as each is out of control suffering from a form of PTSD. Kitty arrives to save the two followers as Vanderman is too far gone. She takes them outside on runs trying to show them what a good pack is like. During a blizzard, one flees from Kitty in an attempt to rescue his alpha Vanderman. Kitty learns Franklin is causing somehow the blizzard. She can see clearly that she must end the storm and find the missing werewolf before feral Vanderman escapes and the storm becomes like another Katrina. Catching Franklin would be the icing on the cake. Carrie Vaughn continues to expand her wonderful werewolf urban fantasy mythos with an edgy, poignant yet at times amusing thriller. The cast is solid as everyone wants to sue, kill or help Kitty. However, as always this is her tale as she struggles with helping werewolf soldiers suffering from PTSD. She and the audience will be stunned with a twist as Kitty Goes to War. Harriet Klausner

They just keep getting better and better!

I really enjoyed this 8th book in the Kitty (the werewolf) series. Sometimes what starts as a pretty good set of books of urban fantasy can get repetitive and stale after a few books; Vaughn's series seems to me to get better and better. And, like all good fantasy, the rules of the Kitty book universe continue to grow in consistency and complexity. This is a story about returning vets from Afghanistan -- members of an elite special forces team who happen, also, to be werewolves. We've all heard of post traumatic stress, and in a very real sense, beyond the fantasy, this book tackles some of the issues. I was really touched by a number of the characters and what they had to endure. The characters continue to develop, also, as Cormac (the bounty hunter) continues to find his way after prison release. I recommend this book to anyone who likes urban fantasy. But please read the first 7 books first! This is soooo much fun!
