Kirkland Revels loomed high above the wild and eerie Yorkshire moors like a brooding stone fortress. To some there was an atmosphere of evil about the place, but to innocent young bride Catherine... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Stands the test of time.

First Sentence: "I met Gabriel and Friday on the same day, and, strangely enough I lost them together; so that thereafter, I was never able to think of one without the other." Catherine Corder marries Gabriel Rockwell more out of affection and to escape an unaffectionate father than out of real love. Shortly after returning to Gabriel's home of Kirkland Revels and being introduced to Gabriel's family, one of whom think she is a fortune hunter, Gabriel dies of apparent suicide. Cathy finds she is pregnant and she is being terrorized by a vanishing monk, things disappearing and being made to question her sanity. It was fun to read this again after probably almost 40 years. I was amazed how much I still enjoyed it. It is a classic gothic suspense with the gutsy female protagonist, a large, brooding building, an undefined threat to her life, sanity and/or child, and a romantic interest to support her. I really enjoyed it.

Excellent gothic novel!

When Catherine came home from school in France, she found her home as gloomy and repressive as ever. She longed for a chance to escape from it, and when she met Gabriel, she did just that. They were married and she went to live with him in Kirkland Revels. Almost as soon as the arrived, Gabriel died. People said it was suicide, but Catherine thought otherwise. After she found out she was with child, strange things started happening, and she realized that someone was trying to kill her - and her child! I love gothic novels, and this one is one of the best! If you have never read one before, or if you have read a hundred, this is the book for you!

Victoria Holt keeps me coming back for more.

I loved Victoria Holt's work from the first book of her's I read. Kirkland Revels is just one of my favorites. Her books keep the reader in suspence. You think you know who did what but she always has a surprise. The way she describes the places and surroundings is amazing. It's like I've actually seen the places. Whenever I finish one of her books I feel like I actually know the characters. She knows how to enchant us with her writing. Once you read her you'll never forget.

I recommend this suspense novel to the lovers of V. Holt

It was the first book I read of Victoria Holt, and I loved it. From then on, I began to read every novel of her. I didn't finish to read them all, but I wish to. I've bought it again because the one I have is old. Here they are too expensive, that's why I decided to buy it to you. I am going to read again and again and again, because I never get tired. It is a suspense novel with some romance in it, just as I like the stories to be. I really recommend it to anyone who reads these types of books.
