Teaches preparation, basic directional throws, classification forms, and basic and advanced self-defence. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Though I only studied Aikido for a short time, I am quite familiar with many of the holds, locks, and takedowns because of my background in Jujitsu. This volume includes many of the basic techniques of Aikido. I do question how effective some of the self-defense responses are in this volume, but that may be because of my back ground in more aggressive self-defense systems such as karate, boxing and combatives. Nevertheless, this is a good book to use as a reference source for those taking up Aikido. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Very good primer on Aikido

A lot of Aikido books are heavy on philosophy and light on concepts (i.e. technique). This book is a sleeper hit. The author very expertly addresses the "ki power" philosophy and sets the record straight - in my opinion. This is a good book to have in one's Aikdio library along with Gozo Shioda's AIKIDO: THE MASTER COURSE.
