Kaleidoscope: A Multicultural Approach for the Primary School Classroom

This is not an in-depth review, more of a note of gratitude for a rich, EMPOWERING text. Dr. Yvonne De Gaetano is presently a professor and Head of the Graduate Bilingual Education Program at Hunter College of the City University of New York. Someone has to toot this woman's horn! I thank my lucky stars for having met her there as my professor in 1996. She became my most memorable teacher in all of my student career. De Gaetano is a fascinating educator, researcher, and writer. She writes from a vast background of experience and a seemingly interminable bank of knowledge. Kaleidoscope must be read by every educator who loves and is serious about their committment to teaching children. De Gaetano's book is deep, yet clear and to the point. It challenges everyone to a new beginning. Throw away those old, prejudiced notions! Teach your children tolerance and pride, teach them hope and teach them to succeed. The step-by-step way in which the author "walks" the reader's mind through all the necessary knowledge and action that leads to a successful multicultural curriculum is really worth 100 stars! Kaleidoscope should be subtitled: "The Official Guide to Multicultural Education."
