Just Say No! taps into a music and culture thriving in urban communities around America. In telling John and Darian's story, Tyree exposes the other side of life in the fast lane - the realisation that achieving one's dreams often comes at a terrible price. Off the Hook!!

I got to put in a good word for Mr Tyree. Now, not all his books were hits, but hey, we all learning here. But either this brother was checking out the music industry, knows someone in the music industry, or just has one hell or an imagination and or research capabilities to write this book. Not only that, Mr Tyree is one hell of a marketing promoter(i.e. tshirts, key chains). Anyhow, the story of this mama's boy who broke away and become a singing sensation will keep you hooked to the book to the very end. Now, don't let the beginning scare you off, stick around and check out the story of Loverboy and Darin. Now, I didn't care for the way some of the women in here were treated(although they allowed themselves to be treated in that manner, and did I say women? Really little girls. Where were their mamas?), I know that this is the way the music, sports, and entertainment scene goes. I truly hope some of the young ladies check this book out in that aspect especially. I give the book more than five stars, and predict a great future for Mr Tyree. winning an NAACP Image Award has definitely not hurt him. Check this book out folks, you won't be bored. And I'm not finished either. Peace.

Captivating

Well, well, well, Omar definately got himself off of my author black list. After "For the Love of Money" I was extremely leary about reading anything by Omar but "Just Say No" was a big surprise to me. It was a captivating read from start to finish. Although the ending may not have been a fairytale ending, I would not have had it any other way. The "Lover Boy" was surely heading for self destruction. This novel is a must read. I recommend it highly. Omar is back in my good graces. Keep up the good work.

JUST CAN' T PUT IT DOWN'

THIS IS THE STORY OF TWO BEST FRIENDS, ONE FROM A SINGLE, GOD-FEARING MOTHER, THE OTHER FROM A STABLE TWO FAMILY HOME. JOHN WILLIAMS, THE SHY RECLUSIVE SHELTERED CHILD OF A SINGLE PARENT HOME GETS BEFRIENDED BY DARIN HARMON THE STABLE AVERAGE AMERICAN BOY. AS THE YEARS PROGRESS, THEY EVENTUALLY BECOME BEST FRIENDS WHO SHARE EVERYTHING UNTIL ONE DAY WHILE THEY ATTEND THE SAME COLLEGE, JOHN ENTERS A TALENT SHOW. AFTER THIS, HE BECOMES AN INSTANT CELEBRITY AND STARTS TO ENJOY THE ADULATION OF THE CROWD AND THE EXTRA TRAPPINGS THAT COME WITH BEING A CELEBRITY.... THROUGH IT ALL, JOHN CONTINUES TO BELT OUT HIT AFTER HIT BASED ON HIS EXPERIENCES IN LIFE. CAN HIS BEST FRIEND DARIN SAVE HIM FROM HIMSELF AND THE 'LOVERBOY' PERSONA. YOU WILL DEFINITELY HAVE TO GET THE BOOK TO FIND OUT. THIS BOOK IS A DEFINITE RECOVERY FROM HIS LAST BOOK, 'FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY' WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A COMPLETE LET DOWN FROM HIS PAST EFFORTS IN WRITING. I AM DEFINITELY GLAD MR TYREE RECOVERED AND REDEEMED HIMSELF WITH 'JUST SAY NO'

Brothers enjoyed it

I am fortunate to work in an environment with other professional black men. Sometimes we have the usual picnics, birthday gatherings, etc. This time we decided to find a book with African American male characters that we could relate to. Well Omar Tyree's "Just Say No" was our decision. Of course we had some guys who didn't want to read fiction. However, this was something that we were going to try. Within the first few day's this book about two very good friends started becoming the focus point of our conversations during lunch or just in passing. Our group of seven gave this book 4 stars out of five but my personal vote is 5 stars. John "Loverboy" Williams and his best friend could only make us think about our friends growing up and the friendships that we have developed at work. I know this isn't a typical review but I consider this to be one of the best books that I have ever read. This is the first book written by Omar Tyree that I have read. Because of this I decided that it's okay for my daughter (12yrs) to read Flyy Girl and I picked up one of his books for my wife (No, Not Single Mom:) but Sweet St.Louis. They're both enjoying the books and we all agree that we like his writing style and the messages that he hides in the books. Well I guess that means that now I am an Omar Tyree fan. I will call his work faction.

This book is "Just ALL GOOD"

Thanks again Omar. "Just Say No" was worth the wait. John "Loverboy" Williams and Darin Harmon reminds me of my friends. You know, those who knew you before you knew yourself. The characters really make you think about some of the decisions that we make in our daily lives and who is really in your corner. I thought the book was funny, while also dealing with serious subjects such as drugs, sex, loyalty, and the music industry that creates our idols. I would love to see this on the BIG SCREEN. The CD was off the HOOK!!!.
