Excellent Book and Caldecott Winner

I homeschool my kids and I wanted to get several books that also have movies for them to compare and contrast and do graphic organizers (Venn Diagram). My daughter read the book in an hour and then immediately wanted to see the movie. She loved both and immediately picked up on the similarities and differences. It was a fun read for her...She is 9. My son is 4 and loved the movie and the pictures in the book as well!

Jumanji

I am a student of West Virginia State College, currently taking a class on Children's Literature. Mr. Samples (A Wonderful Teacher) has instructed us to review a Caldecott winner and write our thoughts on it. I read this book after seeing the movie and, of course, it is quite different. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because of the differences and its speedy nature. I believe that children of various ages would enjoy this book because of the quick adventure and excellent illustrations. I would recommend this book to anyone for a classic family reading time, classroom reading, or bedtime story!

A wonderfully creative picture book for all ages

This is a fanastic picture book. The pictures capture the beauty of the words and it's a wonderful combination. I loved this book, even if the movie is more action-packed. This book is a real treasure.

Boy, I would love to play this game.

This children's book is about two children who find a board game based on a jungle setting that actually comes "alive" when they begin playing it. The book was expanded and made into a film in 1995 starring Robin Williams (and a paperback novel with this same title was based on the screenplay of that film). This book won the 1982 Caldecott medal for best illustrations in a book for children. The reviewer of April, 1999, from the University of Delaware mentioned that some parents might be concerned of the "hint of evil will." Personally, I don't see any of that at all. When kids (and even adults) play board games, they can get really involved. This book is an expansion of that concept.
