I could not disagree with the first reviewer of this book more. Walker's style of writing is smooth and clear. The book presents Calvin's life in a well-rounded fashion that steers clear of partianship. I especially appreciated Walker's treatment of the Servetus incident. Walker does not exonerate Calvin as he goes step-by-step though the incidnet, but he shows that Calvin was careful and consistent with the beliefs and practices of his own time when he dealt with the heretic. Calvin's titanic struggles in Geneva are presented in a "both sides" basis. His ejection from Geneva and his eventual return are carefully documented. This is a first class biography that should be on the shelves of Calvin's friends and enemies.
