The Bible for Manipulating the MS Database Engine

The best computer book I've ever bought. If any book will make you feel like you have the power of God this is it. This book allows you directly access the Jet database engine and make it do whatever you want. If you are interested in getting really good with MS databases--this is the only enssential book to own. Master this book and you should command an annual salary of $150k or more. The CD ROM includes code samples, white papers, and utilities associated with the book.Index1. An Overview of Microsoft Jet2. This is a great book for Database Programmers

Not only does this book go into great detail about how the whole Jet Database Engine works, it describes the whole structure of the Workspaces Data Access Object Model. The information in this book has helped me countless times when I've needed to get information about tables, queries, recordsets, fields to show to users. I was even able to create my own report wizard in VB, and it works just like the one in Access! This book will teach you TONS about the way the Jet Database engine works, and works great as a reference. If more programmers knew the information contained in this book, there wouldn't be as much confusion going on.

I wish I'd found this book sooner

By all rights, the information here should be inclued in the other VBA books, but it's not. After buying too many books on Access and VBA programming, I've finally found a resource that gives more than a cursory look at Microsoft Jet database and programming considerations. Maybe if you already know what you're doing and don't need the Jet shortcuts, bound objects, etc. this book is unnecessary, but if you want to do simple multi-user database applications, this book is essential. Clueless about locking in a multiuser environment and Jet vs. Direct ODBC access? This'll put you on the right track. Not a lot of programming examples, but those are easy to find elsewhere.

DAO examples that make sence!

Too few Microsoft Press books make this much sence . Clear, concise examples and a little theory. Cut and paste code from the companion CD, change a few objects and it works. Great!

MUST READ BOOK FOR VB/ACCESS PROGRAMMERS

THIS IS A MUST HAVE BOOK. 756 pages of Jet/Access secrets. This is the "tell all" book about Jet / Access. If you want to know the down and dirty secrets... this is the book to get. It is VERY READABLE, goes into great detail. The authors should be commended for doing such a fine job. It includes a wall poster of all the Access objects. It includes a CD full of source code and white papers. It details the crazy locking logic of Access. Want to store things in the database object, rather than an Access table? This book will tell you how. Want to know about which bytes in the MDB contain the lock information... this book tells all. NOT ONLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.... BUT "MUST HAVE". John Dunbar.
