Book Overview

Here at last is a reissue of Kasper's major work with a brilliant new introduction surveying recent developments in Christology. Kasper assesses the Christological enterprise in the Church from the earliest down to the most recent times which can be recommended without hesitation to teacher and serious student. The book also provides a solid theological basis for preaching. This may also be described as a work of Christian serenity, but one which...

Intelligent read

It took me two years to slowly get through this text because I wanted to cross reference everything and look up every word that I was not familiar with. The guy who wrote this is a pure genius and I really enjoyed this. It put me right in the moment down to the very detail of everything that was happening, and it did it with great dignity and accuracy.

Absolutely Amazing Book

The first 70 or 80 pages or so are somewhat difficult to get through, but the rest of the book is absolutely incredible. A must read for anyone wants to understand better the life of Christ.

Official Mormon View of Jesus Christ

Commissioned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be an authoritative book on the Latter-day Saints view of Jesus Christ, "Jesus the Christ" is one of the classics in theology among the Saints. If you have any question about Christology among the Mormons, this book will answered any and every question.Joseph F. Smith, the President of the Church, commissioned James E. Talmage, a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, to write this biography on the life of Christ. The idea was to use this book as a home reference and a Church textbook. He more than met the challenge, and this book is still in print almost 100 years later, and is standard work for LDS Missionaries. This book covers every aspect of Christ as best can be expected in one volume. It begins with Christ premortal existence, his mortal ministry in Palestine, his atonement, and finally his post mortal ministry in the Spirit Word (I believe . . . he was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell) and among the Nephites as recorded in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The only two drawbacks with this book are it size, and the verbiage. Elder Talmage was an Englishman, so he spoke with an Englishman's vocabulary. A dictionary solves this problem.

Thoughtful and Valuable to all Contemporary Christians

Walter Kasper provides a valuable exploration of Christology in this work. His efforts do much to counter the recent practice of divorcing the humanity and divinity of Christ by laying out biblical and traditional sources for their connection and then explaining the importance of the incarnational mystery to people in the contemporary world.
