Best New Paranormal Series in Years!

I love, love, love this book! If you are a fan of paranormal romances you have to read this book, which kicks of a great new series (I devoured "Gideon" the next book as soon as it came out). The Nightwalker mythos is just unique enough that this series does not feel like it was ripped off from another author. It is fresh and exciting. Ms. Frank does a fabulous job with establishing her universe (today, but with Nightwalkers such as demons, vampires and shapeshifters among us). The characters are richly described and act convincingly. I love Jacob and Isabella. The romance is satisfying and the sensual scenes are well done without being too explicit. The paranormal elements (Jacob is an Earth Demon with associated powers) are terrific. There was not a single thing I would change about this book. I can't wait for "Elijah."

Jacob: The Nightwalkers is my Recommended Read for March 2007! There is only one Enforcer, and it is his duty to ensure that the Nightwalkers never bring harm to humans. The Nightwalkers are not inherently evil, but sometimes a demon's control slips, especially near the Samhain or Beltane, and they unintentionally cause harm to a mortal. The Enforcer, Jacob, steps in then to stop it, and punish the wrong-doer. But what happens when the Enforcer loses control? Who stops him before it is too late? While hunting a transformed demon who is beyond help, Jacob runs across the puzzling Isabella, who seems to be able to track demons instinctively, and has an unnerving talent for destroying them - something unheard of amongst the human race. More than that, she tests the limits of Jacob's self-control when no other has before. Is Isabella more than she seems? She seems to hold secrets to the Nightwalkers' future, however unwittingly. Jacob knows he can't let her go, for both his sake and his peoples. But can their attraction be consummated without destroying them both? And does something deeper than the impending Samhain draw Jacob and Isabella together? Demons are people too. At least, they are in new author Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalkers world. If someone had told me before I read her debut novel, Jacob, that demons might have the same propensity for good or evil as any human, I might have questioned them. But after reading Jacob, I am a believer! OK, I'm not saying that I believe in demons, per se, but I did find the mythos Frank has created in this new series totally believable. In fact, I soon forgot that Jacob was supposed to be a demon. For me, he was simply a man that happened to be a different species than Isabella. Jacquelyn Frank cost me some sleep, though, I will admit. I could not put this book down once I started it. Completely enraptured by the story, I thought if I could not finish the story by morning, I might just have to play hooky from work for the first time in my life to stay home and read! LOL Isabella was undeniably charming, with a freshness and a wit that captivates the readers as easily as it did the Nightwalkers she meets. It is no wonder that Jacob falls so easily for her. She is all at once wholesome, sexy, funny, intelligent, and noble. Only slightly startled by the fact of the Nightwalkers' existence, she accepts their place in the world without judgment, and resolves to help her new friends with their current plight without hesitation. Jacob's quandary in determining how to handle Isabella is heart-breaking. Even while knowing he needs to keep his distance for her own safety, he can't help but be drawn to her. His protectiveness and passion have the reader praying for a way they can be together, and the author does not disappoint us in the end, providing a HEA that will guarantee satisfaction for the romantics in her audience. Jacob: The Nightwalkers is the kind of story that sadde

IF there was a higher word then WOW, it would apply here

I am kind of thrown off with some of the negative reviews for this book. Usually I am the negative one, but not this time. This book caught my eye and it has been a good week for whim buys with unknown authors and this book is no exception. At first, I only picked it up because it said, "The Nightwalkers." I was ready to be properly insulted if it was any play off Feehan's Ghostwalker or Carpathian series, but I can say with utmost joy that this book is as fresh, new, and original as it gets! Completely original words, original meanings, original only applying to Frank's work meanings. It was a very refreshing blast of water for my reading thirst. Then, to convince me I needed to buy this book and take it home to read was Feehan's praise right on the cover. Well, that was as good a reason as any. Few authors influence my buying selection, Feehan is one of them and if she said she loved it, well then, I must see if her taste still upholds. Jacob, a demon, The Enforcer, has steadily kept vigilant through the centuries to keep his race in check, esphecially during parts of the year-Beltane and Samhain where the full moon brings out more primitive urges of his race. To further complicate the Enforcer's life, after a century of living without fear, a Summoning happens, where a necromancer - magic user, summons a demon that is forced to the transformation of what you would really think a demon would be and must obey who holds them captive reaking havic upon all races. While in search of his summoned brethern to serve swift justice on the magic users and either save or spare his brethern, he quite by accident, meets Isabella. A full plot has these two trying to save all races and maintain peace at the same time. A review stated that there was no "oofph" to the romance, but I have to disagree, I was practically sweating through this book, it was a cross between blazing and scorching! I will agree with others that Isabella, while smart and funny, did kind of get on my nerves towards the end like she needed to just chill out for a minute. Usually where a story starts to fizzle out, this one kept going with flare, I was really surprised and delighted! The plot as I said is quite full, between love, law, fighting, saving races, to savings themselves and Isabella's sister and friends. All very well written. Frank wrote that she is being nominated for an award and I think it's well deserved. On another note, witty humor is abundant throughout this book, some scenes had me actually laughing out loud and my husband looking up going, "whats so funny?" I said, "meat!" LOL. He ofcourse didn't get it, but you will about the first 100 pages with Saul. Bravo Jacquelyn Frank! I am impatiently awaiting the next in the series, "Gideon."

A Fantastic New Legend! A Page Turning Read!

Jacob is the demon enforcer for his people. He keeps the human population safe from those of his people that would do them harm. He knows his duty and does it well. But, when it comes time for him to face his weakness in the form of human named Isabella all bets are off. His heart awakens for the first time in centuries and only when he holds Isabella does he feel completed. But, how can that be? It's not until he brings her back to his demon world that they learn the truth of Isabella's existence and its importance to Jacob as well as his people. But, will Isabella accept the love he has to offer or will a mutual enemy destroy all? This is the first title in Ms. Frank's "The Nightwalker" series and I must say she is off to a brilliant start. I can't wait for the next title that will be releasing in May! The make-believe world she has created is fresh and new and something fan's of the paranormal genre will highly enjoy. Jacob and Isabella's romance is by turns sensual and edge of your seat reading. There has been a great deal of ground work set for the upcoming titles. For those that are getting tired of the same vampire paranormal this will be a welcome change. The reader will laugh, cry and sigh with pleasure. Ms. Frank is an author I highly recommend we keep our eye on!

I am hooked and can't wait for Gideon's story!!

Jacob has spent seven hundred years hunting rogue demons that have given in to moon madness. He doesn't have time for romantic entanglements; especially with humans. His life changes in an instant when a beautiful woman falls out of her apartment window and lands in his arms. Demon Jacob takes his role as Enforcer seriously. Charged with hunting down and punishing those demons that forget and cross the line to prey on humans, his job is never boring. Jacob is always on guard and ready to catch those demons who think they can give in to their basic needs. He doesn't realize how lonely he has become until a raven haired virago literally falls into his arms one night while he is hunting a demon that has been summoned by a necromancer practicing the black arts. His reaction to the woman stuns him and he is unsure of what is happening to him. Suddenly the woman in his arms stills and Jacob realizes that she can sense and smell the demon that he is in charge of finding. Isabella is a librarian by day and moon watcher by night. Contemplating the moon after her sister returns from a date, Isabella leans out of her fifth floor window and sees a man watching her. When he speaks, Isabella doesn't think anything about the fact that the man is five floors below and she can hear him clearly. She does however find the fact that she has just fallen out of the window a bit disconcerting. Her terror is forgotten when she lands in the man's arms and is gently placed on the ground. After introductions are made, Isabella suddenly begins to experience grave discomfort. Hesitating only a moment, she leads Jacob to a warehouse and the demon he is hunting. Isabella and Jacob go into the warehouse where they come face to face with the summoned demon. Jacob is attacked and Isabella finds herself fighting for her life. Picking up an iron bar, she thrusts it at the demon. The demon disintegrates in a burst of fire and sulfur and Isabella is swiftly carried outside. Jacob explains to Isabella what she just killed and places her in a deep sleep so he can carry her safely to his home. Explanations are needed and Jacob needs help from his fellow demons. Much to Jacob's consternation, Isabella awakens. She also meets the other demons and is told their stories. The library of Noah, the demon ruler, is put at Isabella's disposal for research purposes. The demons do not understand how Isabella has the ability to kill one of their own as well as connect mentally with Jacob. Speaking of connecting, Isabella and Jacob find themselves more than once having a hard time keeping their hands off of each other. They must not give in to temptation because it is traitorous for a demon to cavort with a human. Isabella finds something in the king's vaults however, something that can change the course of human and demon destiny. JACOB by Jacquelyn Frank is highly intense and extremely action packed. Thrown for a loop from page one, I could not put this book down
