It's Bedtime

ISBN 0307681122 - Although I've got a very big soft spot for Little Golden Books and their trademark gold foil spines, this one let me down a tiny bit, in a surprising way. A young boy and his teddy bear prepare for bed; finishing supper, taking a bath, reading a story and more. The boy has the bear following the steps along with him, as they prepare to go to sleep. The text, by author B. G. Ford, is written somewhat like a to-do checklist for bedtime, but also as if the boy is telling these things to the teddy bear. It's unusual for Little Golden Books to randomly throw religion into non-religious books, but it appears here, with the line "Now it's time to say your prayers." I found this annoyingly unnecessary, but parents who encourage religion in their children's lives will probably find this appealing. Illustrator Anthony Rao's images are very cute (and very 70s, which I can't explain). Because there's always someone who complains about something, I'll point out that there are a couple illustrations with a naked baby bottom, during bathtime (normal people won't mind). It's a nice touch that the book the boy and bear read is It's Bedtime. - AnnaLovesBooks
