Book Overview

Sparked by the fateful 73-second Challenger voyage, It's About Time began as a newspaper feature chronicling key moments in history and the length of time each took to occur. This fascinating book, complete with photographs, puts scores of historical events to the clock, including the four score and seven years ago Gettysburg Address--which lasted just two minutes in 1863.

It took 43 seconds for the atomic bomb to be dropped on Hiroshima. History was forever altered in less than a minute. In contrast, it took 355 years, 10 months, and five days to end African slavery in the Americas.

These moments in history are among the nearly 200 recounted in this turn-back-the-clock look at time--and the part it played in history. Unlike most books that present events in chronological order, It's About Time ranks key historical moments by duration--from the shortest to the longest.

* 1/400th of a second-photographing the flag-raising on Iwo Jima (1945)

* Two hours, 32 seconds--Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon (1969)

* Four days--stock market crash (1929)

* 14 years, 28 days--the carving of Mount Rushmore (1927-41)

* 2,267 years--construction of the Great Wall of China (7th century B.C.-1568)

Featuring facts from each event and black-and-white snapshots from many of them, this book offers a yet-unseen perspective on history and the time it has taken for historical events to unfold. It's About Time is a must-read for history and trivia buffs everywhere.Audio edition has additional updated bonus material not in print. Read by the author.

It's about Time

This book is for readers of all types, occasional readers, history buffs, frequent readers, and even mystery novel readers! The detail and details on each subject is quite amazing! For instance most Americans would not believe the Gettysburg address took only 2 minutes to deliver by President Lincoln and the main speaker at the event spoke for 2 hours! Most Americans would not believe that we have not set foot on the moon since 1972! Most Americans remember John Glenn as a U.S. Senator and Astronaut but few know that he flew 59 combat missions in World War II! It is these important details of history and time that make this book so wonderful to read and appreciate. It doubles as a coffee table book because when friends come over, they immediately pick it up and start reading it! It is worth double or triple the price I paid for it! I heartily recommend this book to readers of all ages, young and old who want appreciate history and the Time it took to make that history!
