I am a teacher and I have my high students read this collection of books. From the moment they start they are hooked. They don't want to stop reading it. We breezed through the first book and know they can't wait to read the others. My other reading groups are wanting desperately to read this series, so I find it to be a good motivator. I have also read the entire DIVE series to my class and they loved it.
An excellent trilogy

These three books are an excellent choice for kids. They're very exciting and are full of adventure, yet the author ties events together so logically that you're convinced that it "could really happen". The characters are well done for the most part. There are six, and most of them feel like they could be real people. Two of them seem a little improbable, but they serve to offer comic relief. Each one comes into their own in time, so none of them really fade into the backround or feel disposable. I really enjoyed reading about how the kids survived on the island; it emphasized their resourcefulness, and made me interested in what challenges they would have to face next. Although survival was the basic premise, there were also a couple of subplots that were woven into the main themes, which made the books feel more like adventure novels and less like life lessons. At the end of the third book, all of the storylines converge for a gripping and satisfying ending. Overall, these three books are literally difficult to put down once you dig into them. There's always something exciting looming, always another surprise to hook you. I highly reccomend these for children, and if you read them to your kids, I'll bet you'll find yourself just as interested in them.

Island By, Gordon Korman Island. Even the title makes me shiver. This book is one of the best books I've ever read. It is a fantastic series because I can relate to these kids. This is the first book in the series and it is action packed. It all starts with six kids: Luke Haggerty, 13, of Haverhill, MA- Charla Swan, 12, of Detroit MI- Ian Sikorsky, 11, of Lake Forest IL- and Will Greenfield, 13, with his sister Lyssa, 12, these two kids are from Huntington NY. And last but not least J.J. Lane whose father happens to be the famous actor, Jonathan Lane. These six kids are having problems, so their parents ship them off to a program called "Charting A New Course". Their Captain, Captain Cascadden and his mate Mr. Calvin Radford have decided to push the limits. So what will they do when their boat EXPLODES............
Better than Harry Potter

Picture this. Cast Away, with a touch of James Bond and then a lot of the Olimpics. Add it together, adn you get the ISLAND series.I loved thiese books. Fromt he moment Luke (main character) gets on the book, I was hooked onto the books. If I could, I would give the review seven stars. These six kids are shipwrecked on an island, by the fault of the bad guy, Radford a.k.a. Ratface. Once there, they discover that they are not alone and that there are bad guys, worse that then Ratface, holding an illegal smuggling system on the island. Also the characters are running out of food, are lost, tired and one of them has amnesia. And just for the heck of it, Korman threw in a bomb. ot a live one, ready to blow them up, but the third bomb from WWII. Eventually, they get off, but its a real surprise how. The characters have never ending personalities and great desprictions. My favortie is the athlectic Charla and brainy Ian. This series I nominated for the best book award at my school. Its that good.
