Invitation to Matthew: A Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew with Complete Text from the Jerusalem Bible

"Invitation To Matthew" provides the reader with a deeper understanding of this Synoptic Gospel. The book consists of sequential passages covering the whole Gospel of Matthew, each of which is followed by a commentary. The combination of passage and commentary can be as short as two pages. Few, if any, sections exceed about eight pages. In his commentaries, Fr. Senior does an excellent job of bring to light backgrounds, insights and Scriptural citations which aid the reader to more deeply understand the passage under consideration. Although the commentaries raise issues that are beyond the knowledge of many laymen, they are understandable by most. I recommend this for any lay reader with an interest in the gospel message.
