Eye Opener - Should have had it years ago!

Let me start with myself. I am a graduate engineer who has had to deal with ideas, inventions and patent applications for years. I wish it had existed and been required reading in one of my engineering school courses way back when, since I believe it would have made the whole experience much more interesting and I know it would have made me much better at my work. One of the first things this book stresses is the fact that we automatically try to see what's wrong with a new idea. The author proposes that we first attempt to discover the good points of an idea long before trying to see what might be wrong with it.The book then goes on to suggest ways to enhance creativity and inventiveness, even giving exercises designed to stimulate and strengthen those faculties. I would recommend this book to anyone but especially to someone like myself who has had to solve problems for a living. It gives a new perspective on ways to open your mind and expand your abilities as an inventor. If you are an inventor or just wondering about the process, this is one book worth reading! (Perhaps even several times.)

At last, a book that really spells out how to invent,.

I am more comfortable with myself after reading INVENT! It has been so easy to say to myself that I can't be more creative, that I can't be an inventor. Then here comes along this book that tells me just how to do it, just how to use my talents, hidden and overt, how to think up new ideas and how to make them work. The concept of an "Angel's Advocate" is marvelous. It shows me how to think positively and how to move forward in my imagination and thinking and doing. If there is any one thing to take from this book it is that philosophy and make it my own. Instead of using the devastating "Automatic NO!" response that the author describes so well, I am practicing to ask "What's Good About It?" when formerly my first reaction to a new idea was a negative one. Now I know I can move ahead with ideas and build on them, rather than reject them as a first alternative. My friends wonder what has happened to me and I don't hesitate to tell them about INVENT!The internet information given is also valuable.I only wish I could have had this book 20 years ago, but it seems that the author feels that it's never too late to change one's habits and become a really supportive person. I have read the book twice and am now reading for the third time. Each time something else of value pops up. And the practice exercises are fun and constructive. I enjoy them. I am amazed at the benefits I am getting from this book. I thank the Lord for it.
