Fantastic account of the trip that opened human horizons.

This book is authoritative and in-depth - I have a first edition copy published 1969, which is falling apart slightly - and is a fantastic read for anyone who is interested in one of the greatest journies mankind has ever made. If you are interested in space, astronomy or even science fiction, this book will have you flicking through the pages, reading long transcripts of everything from launch to the first step. Wonderful!
Makes you feel you were there

I have had this book for 29 years! Landing on the moon was man's greatest achievement. Reading this book gives you the background to space travel. It explains what lead President Kennedy to launch the Apollo programme. It discusses the hiccups (the Apollo 1 tragedy) but most of all it makes you feel as though you were at the Sea of Tranquility on 20th July 1969. My greatest disappointment is that the predictions made in the last chapter have not yet happened.
